K en t (67) sent up 78 fo r the first w ic k e t; K en t and E . J. L e a t added 46 more. L eat w as out at length for 81, forceful (as eleven 4’s and five 3’s testify), though not free from fau lt. M eanw hile fou r batsmen had falle n in quick sucecssion, a ll bow led by L. S. G ruchy (fast le ft ) ; but W . E. B aker (26*) and G. D ew ley (22) stopped the rot, and added 55 in 20 m inutes. E lth am at E lth am could be divided into three stages— a w retched start, w ith 3 down for 16— a stand of 92 by E. Upton (52) and C. I. S. Wal ace ( 4 1 )— a n d a collap se, all ou t 140. E ltham started even w o rse; 5 were down for 44, but then A. W . R amm ell (97*) and J. C. W ood (36) took the score to 137, and eventually they made 197 for 7, a hefty-lookin g colt nam ed W . G. G race being g.* T h is youngster showed quite prom ising form ; he m ight be worth sending in earlier. Jenner, the G range pro, taking a ’busm an’s ho lid ay, bow led w ell (5 for 51) for L. P. A t W ick fo rd 322 for 8 w ickets were scored in the game between the home side and A rlin gton and Leytonstone. G. W inm ill made 100* and R. W . Patm ore 60 for W ickford (187 for 6, dec.); J. Hoare (52) and C. H. D avis (32) were chief contributors to A. and L .’s 135 for 2. L au derdale (222— H. O. Jones g6, G. R. C rofts 42) easily beat Tottenham House (138) at H arlesden. Jones’s was a good knock, but C ro fts punished even more freely— his score was made up of ten 4’s and two singles. South W est Ham , at T id a l B asin, put out Stam ford H ill for the moderate total o f 131, C. W e lls and J. S. Cossington bow ling w ell, though no outstanding analysis was achieved. Then the home side proceeded to run up 230 for 4, passing their opponents’ score w ith only one w icket down. E . J. Connor p layed a splendid innings of 152*, g iv in g no chance, and h ittin g w ell a ll round the wicket. B eulah ( u g — L. W . Burbidge 22, Baster 21) again drew with B ick ley and W id fo rd (104 for 7— G ran ger 37*, an innin gs which saved his side from defeat. B eulah II. (66— J. W . Hemmans a plucky 2g) had a bad time w ith Aptus (188 for 8, dec.). G reville picked up again a fter a bad day on Ju ly igth, and made 244 for 7, dec., v. North M iddlesex at Crouch End on Thursday. Gordon Jannin gs (73*), C lem ent Jones (6g), R. V . M enhennith (28*), and “ L. B. K a y ” (27) were ch ief scorers. North M iddlesex’s reply was 166 for 7— V. W arboys 78, F. Sm ith 43. Jones took 4 for 6 for the visitors. T he Saturday m atch with St. Albans was also drawn. St. A lbans, by level batting, made 219, L. G. Hosier (41) top scorer. G reville played out time with 108 for 4— W. D. B aylis 25, Jannings 24*. Jannin gs took 5 fo r 61 in the St. A lbans innings. G re ville ’s scores in these two matches aggrega ted 352 for 11. T h e y were all out for 26 a few days earlier. Such is the glorious— you know the r e s t! G reville A got a nasty kn ock from one of the L. & N. W .R . team s, who ran up 250, the highest again st the side for years. C. B utcher (62), H. F ountain (44), R. Thom p­ son (38), and R. J. Judd (36) were chief run-getters. A. M. D unn’s 6 for 82 in such circum stances was a pretty good perform ance. G reville w ere dism issed for 48. T he B team had a keen game w ith Brondesbury I I I ., and only lost by 10 runs. Scores : 91 (J. D owner 47) and 101. T he issue was still in doubt w ith the last two Brondegbury men in. Hampstead Nomads drew a capital game w ith U pper C lapton on Thursday. J. P.
