J uly 26, 1013. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 447 Cambridgeshire v. Suffolk. At Fenner’s, Cambridge, July 21 and 22 . With something more like a representative side, weaker opposition and first innings on a wicket that did not improve as the match progressed, Cambridgeshire did something to rehabilitate their reputation. W. Collier and Carpenter started well; but four wickets were down for 86 when Kechlyside and Watts became partners, and made the stand of the match, putting on 87- After then Hart played well, and the total topped 300- Suffolk failed completely before Coulson and Sadler only Cornell reaching double figures. When they followed on Driver, a new man in the team, played very well, and in first wicket down, was last out. Cobbold helped him to add 59 for the tenth wicket. The home side won by an innings and 56 runs. C a m b iiid o k s iiir k . F. TL Collier, st. C >rnel',b Penfold 26 Carpenter, c Oobbold, b tenfold... 24 W. C. Hunt, b Penlold .............. 1 H.C. Staffordshire v. IVorfoIk. At Stoke, July 21 and 22 . For their total of 2 1 7 , Staffordshire were very largely indebted to the big first- wicket stand of Brisrgs and Taylor. It will be seen that Barnes had the Suffolk batsmen at his mercy, particularly in their second effort, when he had the remarkable analysis of 7 for 19 . Staffordshire won by an innings and 50 . O. M. R. W 11 32 48 16 0 28 309 On July 21 seven batsmen who needed less than 50 runs each to qualify for the fast-growing list of 1000- runs’ scorers batted. Ernest Tyldesley (999), E. L. Kidd (98S), Denton (984), and Bowell (980), all got there. The other three were Bovvley, Vine and Har dinge, the first-namecl needing 34, and the latter two 33 each ; and it was quite a coincidence that each of the three should score a single only. The list of thousand-runs’ scorers to July 23 is :— 1 Mead (C.P.) June 14. 9 Hearne ( J . w ! ) July 12. 2 Quaife (W G .) June 24. 10 Relf (R.R.) July 14. Woolley (F.E.) June 27. 11Makepeace (H.) July 15. Hobbs (J.B.) June 28. 12 A. H. Hornby July 15. Rhodes (W.) July 3. 13 Tvldesley (J.T.) July 19. Relf (A.E.) July 4. 14 Tyldesley (E.) July 21. Seymour (Jas.) July 8 . 15 E. L. Kidd July 21. S. G. Smith July 11. 16 Denton (D.) July 21. 17 Bowley (F.L.) July 21. The four Lancashire men all in a row present a coincidence. John Tyldesley managed to win the friendly race with his brother. The younger Tyldesley, A. H. Hornby and E. L. Kidd are the only new men in the list as yet. Takers of a hundred wickets to date are 1 Booth (MAY.) July 8 . 3 Blythe (C) July 21- 2 Thompson (G.J.)
