J uly 19, 1913. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 415 The Au s tr a lian s in the field a t Victoria, B .C .— J. N. Crawford bowling. TH E SCORE-BOOK. Gentlemen of Philadelphia v. Australian Team. At Haverford, June 27 and 28. This was the second match between the sides; the first was given in our issue of July 5, and the third last week. On a pitch said to be perfect 30 wickets fell for 287 runs on the first day, H. G. Pearce, the Philadelphian fast bowler, performing very finely indeed, and Mailey, Crawford, and Macartney dis missing the home team for a grand total of 182 for the two innings. C lark also bowled well. In the batting line only R. P. Anderson, an eleventh-hour choice, and Bardsley dis tinguished themselves. The Philadelphians had the distinc tion of heading the Australians by 10 runs on the first innings; but Mayne and Cody hit off the runs required without difficulty on the Saturday morning. No analysis for the second Australian innings is to hand. First Innings. G e n tle m e n o f (-■M. Graham, b Crawford C C. Morris, lbw, b Crawford R- P. Anderson, c and b Mailey S- H. Only the^ full score of the first day’s play is to hand, and no analysis at all is given. In their first innings the Australians declared at 291 for 7— Macartney 104, Collins 70, Crawford, Emery, and Mayne 31 each, Bardsley 21. The X V III. totalled 83, Emery taking 6 wickets, Campbell 5, Crawford 3, Collins 1. The highest score w as H. A. Lacey’s 19. On the second day the Australians made 187— Campbell 51, Emery 28, Macartney 24. The X V III. scored 115— W . Sunderland 56, H. A. Lacey 21. The Schenectady papers indulged in some tall talk about the “ success ” of the local side in getting the Australians out so cheaply, claiming to have established a record by dismissing them under 300— but they didn’t, for the innings was declared with only 7 wickets down. “ Here after,” we are told, “ Schenectady will be recognised among the best cricket clubs of the country.” It is to be hoped that when this time arrives the Gazette (whose eagle screech this is) will attend to the small but important detail of the score. Schenectady batted 18 men, but' only fielded 15. Emery in his fourth over took 5 wickets with successive balls. If the full score and analysis ever arrives, space will be found for i t ; but the match had no real importance. A ustr alian T e am . E- R. Mayne, b Pearce L. A. Cody, c Winter, b Pearce C- G.
