There have now been 79 University matches. Reckoning 22 players to each game, and deducting one for the fact that Oxford played one short in 1839, 1737 places have had to be filled. Of these Eton has filled 321 (181 in Cambridge teams, 140 in Oxford), Harrow 236 (132 C., 104 O.), Winchester 174 (26 C., 148 O.), Rugby 124 (54 C., 70 O.), Marlborough 87 (46 C., 41 O.), Uppingham 61 (48 C., 13 O.), Charterhouse 53 (22 C., 31 O.), Westminster 53 (32 C., 21 O.), Repton 51 (26 C., 25 O.), Malvern 42 (23 C., 19 O.), Tonbridge 28 (10 C., 18 O.), Wellington 27 (12 C., 15 O.), Rossall 25 (14 C., 11 O.), Brighton 24 (21 C., 3 O.), and Cheltenham 24 (5 C., 19 O.). This accounts for 1326 places, the remaining 411 having been filled by players from schools none of which has earned the distinction of filling 20 places. But, of course, many men have played two, three, and four times each, and a few in the early days five times. The actual number of blues from each of the fifteen schools mentioned above is: Eton, 153; Harrow, 113 ; Winchester, 85; Rugby, 65; Marlborough, 37 ; Uppingham, 25 ; Charterhouse, 24 ; West minster, 23 ; Repton, 20 ; Malvern, 17 ; Tonbridge, 15 ; Brigh ton, Cheltenham, and Rossall, 11 each; Wellington, 10.
