314 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. Jun e 21, 1913. A h a p p y event o f which news reaches me late was the marriage on M ay 6 o f Mr. Robert Gerald Leach, eldest son o f the late Mr. John Leach, o f 'Rochdale, to Miss M ary Dolores Leach, second daughter o f the late Mr. Roger C . Leach, o f San Pedro de Jujuy, Argentina. T h e Leach fam ily is one o f cricketers, and Lancashire and the Argentine alike have witnessed their deeds of prowess on the good greensward. John Leach was one o f the best batsmen in the County Palatine in his d a y ; and R . C. and W . E . Leach, though most o f their cricket was p layed in South America, represented the county in the m iddle eighties. Another brother, Robert, wras a ’Varsity runner o f fame. ------------- H a r o l d L e a c h , another o f the clan, played a lot o f cricket in the Liverpool district— for the D ingle C .C . chiefly, my informant believes. R . G. Leach, the bride groom o f M ay, is a member o f the H ealey C .C ., Roch dale, the home club o f all the fam ily. T h e programme o f the Australian Team in America is after all filling up very well. Vancouver had arranged no m atch; but while the side was in Victoria the V a n couver officials approached the management with a view to getting two or three games p layed in their city by the team on its return journey through Canada. M r . L . B . T e b b u t t , the Hon. Organising Secretary o f the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, on F riday last issued the follow ing statement :— “ At the recent meeting of the committee of the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, the position of Lancashire in the recent controversy was mentioned, and it was explained entirely to the satisfaction of the Northampton shire Committee that it was never the intention of Lanca shire that Northamptonshire should be excluded from the championship. The Northamptonshire Committee know that Lancashire had, and still have, the most friendly feeling toward Northampton.” F o u r blues have been awarded by the Oxford cap-, tain, the recipients being A . C . W ilkinson (Eton), G. R . R . Colman (Eton), B . G. von B . Melle (South A frican College, Cape Town), and P . Havelock Davies (Brighton). In no case is the choice at all in the nature o f a surprise. ------------- T h e North Staffordshire and D istrict League matches were held up completely by rain on A pril 26 and M ay 3. A proposal was made to rearrange fo r later dates the fixtures thus lost. The League Committee could not see their way to th is ; but a match has been arranged for the benefit o f all the clubs.
