QUEENSLAND v. N EW SOUTH WALES. Though the New South Wales side sent up to Bris bane did not include a single player who had ever visited England with an Australian team it was a pretty strong one. The match should have begun on November 22, but that day was a blank, owing to heavy rain. E. L. Waddy captained the visitors, and, winning the toss, sent Queensland in. The best cricket was played by two men who only got their places at the last moment, aw ing to the dropping out of more experienced pW ers. Sheppard hit out well, and Rowe played in good style. When New South Wales went in, the last-named, quite a youngster, put on as second change, was too much for everybody except J. C. Barnes, and took the last six wickets— five bowled—-at a cost of only 15 runs. B a t ting again on a better wicket, Queensland failed before Massie’s left-handers and Scott’s expresses, Joe Thomson, who reappeared after a longish absence, being top scorer w ith 29 not out. The visitors made the runs required for the loss of only two wickets, Eric Barbour playing well.
