In the averages which follow “ B .” denotes Barbados, “ G .” British G uiana, “ T .” Trinidad, and “ W .” (against O llivierre’s and Phillips’s names) W est Indies, these tw o players h ailin g from islands not included in the tour. Gibbs, of Barbados, p'ayed in five m a tch es; Ince, Browne, R ogers, Cumberbatch, and A . Cipriani appeared in four e a c h ; none of the others played in more than three. Ince has the highest b attin g average, followed by Tarilton and G. Challenor (over 50), B rowne and Moulder (over 40 ), Gibbs, Cumberbatch, and R . Challenor (over 30), and there were eigh t more w ith averages exceed in g 20 . John, R ogers, O llivierre, Pascall, and G . Challenor were the only men w h o took 10 w ickets or more, and most of them were rather expensive. On the whole, the W est Indian batting is probably much stronger than the bow ling.
