582 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. Nov. 16, 1912. record com paring p oorly with those of m ost form er seasons. Their leading batsmen were E. Eade, F. L. Bull, and J. L. T ra n ter; while F. Jarvis (46 wickets at 8-8 each) and G. N orth (31 at 9-2) did best for them with the ball. The H am pstead N omads held their annual m eeting, preceded by a dinner, at the Chantecler R estaurant, Frith Street, Shaftesbury A venue, on the 24th ult., and I had the very real pleasure of being present at the dinner, though 1 was obliged to leave early to catch a ( train— only to find, on reaching Brighton, that the late train on the ! branch line had been altered to 11.5 instead of 10.15 for Thursdays only, and that I m ight have stayed till at least the finish o f the dinner ! W hat luck som e of us have ! The gathering was not large, i but it was particularly jolly, for the N omads are a band of brothers, and the stranger w ithin their gates is made to feel quite at home. Am ong those present were Messrs. H. Browning (re-elected captain j at the meeting afterwards), S. B. K . Caulfield (re-elected hon. sec.), L. G. Kirkpatrick, F. C. B oully, S. H . L. Greaves (vice-captain and i hon. treasurer), J. S. Caulfield, H . E. Crawfurd, A . G. H . Richards, P. V. Stallon, W . A. H irst, and L. F. Matthews. M ost of the club’s old opponents will be m et again in 1913 ; and new matches have been fixed up with B rook H ouse (A rdingly), H ounslow Garrison, H .A .C ., Mill H ill School, and Brondesbury. A t the end of June the N omads will visit the south coast for a week, the suggested programm e being three tw o-day m atches, one with H ythe already settled. Messrs. H . E. Crawfurd and A . G. H . R ichards are new members of com mittee. The A cton T ow n C.C. held their annual dinner and concert at the “ George and D ragon,” H igh Street, A cton, on O ctober 30. Circum stances prevented m y own attendance, though I had hoped to be able to accept Mr. C. M. R ichardson's kindly invitation to be presen t; but a full report has reached me, and I have pleasure in giving some details. Mr. F. A. Baldwin (president of the club) was in the chair, and am ong those present were Councillor G. Percy Pratt, Inspector Instance, Messrs. J. Beaucham p, C. M. Richardson (cap tain), F. K ing (hon. sec.), W . Evdm ann, jun., Percy Orford, C. H ooper, S. W . Stacey, A. T. Overall, and W . W . W aite. The prizes were awarded as follow s : F. Hawkins (batting first X I.), Dr. Alcinder (batting, second X I.), S. Dean (bow ling, first X L ), J. Cousins (bowling second X I.), S. Dean and C. M. R ichardson (m ost regular representa tion, these tw o tying for the honour). The chairman made an excell ent speech in proposing the toast of the evening— “ Success to the A cton Tow n C.C.” — going into the history of the club, financial and from a playing point of view. H e paid a special and well-deserved tribute to Mr. F. K ing, who not only acts as secretary, but also umpires regularly in first X I. m atches, and (to m y certain knowledge) is as keen on the gam e as any one can be. Mr. K ing was presented with a silver m atch -box as a token o f appreciation of his good work. Messrs. C. M. R ichardson and F. K ing both responded, the captain dwelling with pleasure upon the excellent results of the season, during which Kensington (N. and S.), Mill H ill Park, R ichm ond Park, and Twickenham Orleans had been am ong the team s defeated, while Mr. K ing m entioned that in the course o f six seasons he had only missed umpiring in tw o m atches. The concert which follow ed was thor oughly appreciated b y all. The averages o f -Upper T ooting, W alham Green, Upper Syden ham, H onor Oak, Beckton, Buckhurst H ill, Cyphers, South W est H am , and Manor Park Constitutional will be am ong those given in our next issue. I shall be glad to have those of L. and N .W .R ., E dm onton, Clapham Ram blers, Bellevue, B rixton, Colchester dnd E ast Essex, Fulham , Capital and Counties Bank, and Balham W an derers— also others— if the secretaries of those clubs care to send them along. These should be sent to the E ditor as early as possible in each m onth. W e have various schemes for the benefit o f the clubs next summer— among them that of a bureau for the arrangement o f fixtures on behalf of clubs left without a m atch by belated scratch ing. C r ic k e t will do all that it can for the clubs, and asks in return for their hearty support.
