552 CRICKET : A WEEKLY EECORD OE THE GAME. Oct. 12, 1912. The First-Class Season of 1912. B y T he E dito r . ( Continued from page 5811). Excuses are better left unwritten, perhaps; and so I will only say that I am sorry for the om ission of Jupp and Tarrant from the list of averages given in the last number. That the om ission was unintentional I need not say. T he figures of the two were :— Inns. No. R. A. H.S. O. R. W. A. Jupp (V. C. W.) ... 38 8 4.02 15-06 70 215-2 074 26 25’!)2 Tarrant (F. The table of runs scored for and against each side in the Cham pionship series means, of course, some hours of work, and tbe fuller table, in which all first-class matches played by regular sides are included, represents m ore hard labour. Not every reader cares m uch for statistical matter of this s o r t ; but some have written to say that they welcom e it, and I believe that the figures, when carefully worked out, have some value. W hile Lancashire, Sussex, and Yorkshire can claim five each, Hants four, and Essex, Kent, and Surrey three each, six of the first-class counties— Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, M iddlesex, Somerset, and W orcestershire— never reached 400 during the season. M iddlesex and Somerset were the only counties against w hich no such total was made. There were six such totals v. Hants, four v. Sussex, and three each v. Kent, Leicestershire, Notts and W orcestershire. —---------:------ There were a dozen totals of 50 and under in 1912, besides m any of between 50 and 100, which it does not seem worth while to tabulate.
