(206 for 6) and Cupar (110 for 8). The match of the day was to take place at Coatbridge when Ayr and Drumpellier met to settle the championship of the West, but rain curtailed play, and the game was left unfinished. Ayr with a woakened side did well to get 168, in response to which Drumpellier collected 65 for 4 wickets. Uddingston (130) all but beat Greenocck (88 for 9). H. C. Shaw, Uddingston (48) was top scorer, and Nash (7 for 36) maintained his recent form. For Greenock Ford (6 for 46) performed the hat trick. The West of Scotland (145), who created a surprise by defeating Uddingston the previous week, went under to Poloc (150 for 4), for whom W. Linton (59*) was again gathering the runs. A curious game was fought out between Clydesdale (52) and Kil marnock (41) at Titwood. The Titwood team thought the match as good as over when they were dismissed for such a small total, but Beardsworth (4 for 16) and W. Thorburn (6 for 23), backed up by splendid fielding, bowled with such effect that the opposition were tumbled out for eleven runs less. For Kilmarnock Nixon (3 for 13), G. D. Jamieson (5 for 25) and D. C. Stevenson (2 for 9) had all fine analyses. A team of Lancashire players under the leadership of Dr. Hitchen of Heywood was touring in the Western •district, but they were not favoured by the weather. The match with Clydesdale did not proceed far ; but tho visitors (130) beat Poloc (59) and were in their turn beaten by Clackmannan County-—112 to 48. In their win Cran- field, the professional, who was with the Grange some years ago, had 8 wickets for 16 ; and for Clackmannan Jenner, the Watsonian professional, who is assisting the county during West’s illness, had 8 for 17. Arbroath United (31) got a severe drubbing from Perthshire (113 for 5). M. R. Dickson and R. W. Siev wright failed, and R. M. Mitchell (5 for 15) and Benskin (4 for 15) of Perthshire wore “ on the spot.” The Glaniis Castle X I. (168) played a drawn game with Brechin (61 for 4), in Which match Smith, the Brechin professional, completed his hundred wickets for the season. Over in Fife Dunfermline (172 for 6) and Leith (90 for 6) —ten a side—drew their match ; but Burntisland (104 were just beaten by Leith Franklin (105 for 6), thanks to G. D. Cunningham, 55. In Borderland Selkirk (211 for 6) accounted for Peebles County (121). W. Grieve, of Selkirk (85), was chief scorer, while W. Eddie (74) hit well for Peebles. A Border League match was played at St. Boswell’s between St. Boswell’s (44) and Gala (71). A. Scott, of St. Boswell’s (19*), carried his bat through the innings ; but generally the bowlers had the upper hand, R. A. Anderson, Gala (6 for 20) and A. Scott (4 for 17) coming out best. Another low-scoring game was that at Hawick between Hawick (86) and. Lang holm (68). For the winners J. Storrie had 8 wickets for 27, and for the losers Jackson had 5 for 33. THE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP.
