It goes almost without saying that no luck attended the clubs whose Weeks fell within that terrible August 5-10 period. Ealing only m anaged to finish one match in five. The first of the week J was a two-day game against a strong side got together by Mr. F . H. D angar, the club’s President, most of the players being, like Mr. Dangar him self, of Australian origin. The home team batted first; but Dr. Morcom and R. Graham were so deadly that 6 were down for 69. Then came an improvement. J . H . A . Tolkien made some fine drives, and S. Lloyd Jones played well, so that eventually the respect able total of 169 was reached. Capt. B asil Maclear, of Rugger fame, and G. S. Churchill put up 50 for the first wicket of Mr. Dangar’s team ; but then wickets fell quickly, and 5 were oat for 74. Then, as in the Ealin g innings, two batsmen eame to the rescue, D. R . Osborne and E . E . Apthorp, the Beds, stumper, being still together at call of time, when the score stood 134 for 5. Capt. Maclear’s shots past cover and Apthorp’s driving and pulling were excellent. In stormy and broken weather on Tuesday, the twelve carried their total to 2 2 1, and | E alin g replied with 120 for 5, J . B . Craik batting finely on a difficult pitch for 47. Some of his pulls were daring in the extreme. Hobbs, for E alin g, had 7 for 63, and in the match Dr. Morcom took 6 for 61. I On Wednesday the home team made 136, and Finchley had scored 1 1
