Cricket 1912
J un e 22, 1912. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OP THE GAME. 259 School gained a fine victory over their Old Boys, 220 to 12 1, E . B. Amell hitting 2 1 fours, and not giving a chance until he was caught and bowled for 12 3. Consistent scoring enabled St. Jo h n ’s, Leather head, to total 2 17 against tbe Old Johnians, who narrowly escaped defeat, the board showing 129 for 8 when the game was concluded. St. Bees School were most unfortunate. Winning the toss they began badly but D. Boberts 4 1 and G. A. West 29 improved matters and at 130 for 6 the innings was closed. B ain then began to fall and the school bowlers were heavily handicapped, with the result that Whitehaven won easily by 8 wickets. 0 . S. Jenkins, tbe old Surrey three-quarter, hit up 82 not out for the Marlborough Blues, who defeated Epsom College by 219 for 8 as against 100. Cranleigh recorded a good victory by 7 wickets and a few runs over Hurstpierpoint. The Cranleigh captain won the toss, and put Hurst in. Five wickets were down for 5 0 ; the sixth and seventh men then doubled the score; but all were out for 118 . Adams (5 for 47) and King (4 for 23) bowlid well. Back and Arm felt made 5 1 for the first Cianleigh w icket; Chudleigh stayed while 44 were added for the second, though his share was only 4. Short hit four boundaries in quick succession. Arm felt’s 85 was a capital innings. Leys (eight of the ten who batted getting double figures, with J . B . Bobertson's 53* highest) easily beat U .C .S. at Cambridge, though the visitors had Aston in the team again. He was top scorer ; but he only made 22, the rest failing dismally before Maclay, Shelley and Pickup. Denstone (T. H . Bowman 73 and 6 wickets) beat King Edward’s, Birm ingham , in very sim ilar style. Felsted went down to Pallings- wick, but battled pluckily, making 201 after their visitors had declared at 270 for 6. Aldenham defeated a scratch team by 4 wickets, and Fram lingham play< d a draw with Ipswich and E ast Suffolk. Cricket in Scotland. B y H a m ish .
