On his eighth visit to England, equalling Blackham’s record, though the famous wicket keeper’s eight tours were made in the course of 16 years, and Gregory’s have run to 23. Fine bat, one of the very best, and a rare man at a crisis ; great field at cover or extra mid-off. W a r r e n B a r d s l e y . —Born at Warren, N .S .W ., December 7, 1884. Visited England first three years ago, and headed batting averages, scoring two centuries v. England at the Oval. A magnificent left-hand bat, from whom no score, however big, would come as a surprise, and a capital field. now he has never had a chance in test match cricket. A first-class wicket-keeper, and quite a useful bat. C l a u d e B. J e n n in g s . —Vice-captain. Born at Mel bourne, June 5, 1884. An accomplished and particularly sound batsman, who is sure to do big things before the tour ends, and a first-rate field. E d g a r R. M a y n e .- —Born at Jamestown, South Aus tralia, July 4, 1883. Another sound bat, capable of both defensive and aggressive tactics, and a capital field at point. R o y B a l d w in M in n e t t . — Born at Sydney, June 13, 1888. A dashing batsman, good fast medium right-hand bowler, and fine field. Photo by] [Hawkins Co., Brighton. B ack Row—W. J. W h itty . Did fairly well then, but s a much finer bowler now, faster, and with more variety. Left-hand. Gets runs now and then, and fields fairly. C h a r l e s G e o r g e M a c a r t n e y . —Born a t West M a it land, N .S.W ., June 27, 1886. The most improved man in the team as a batsman, miles ahead of his 1909 form, though he was good then. Started the tour in great form, recalling Victor Trumper at his best. A left-hand bowler who can do a lot when the wicket helps him, and a splendid field. W il l ia m C a r k e e k .— Born at Walhalla, Victoria, October 17, 1878. The fifth of the old hands, though till T h o m a s J a m e s M a t t h e w s .— Born in S.A., April 3, 1884. Not much to look at as a bat, but decidedly useful for all t h a t; a slowish leg-break bowler who can get on a lot of work, and a good field. S y d n e y H a n d E m e r y .- —Born at Sydney, October 16, 1886. A dashing right-hand bat, googly bowler, uncertain as to length, but very difficult to play at times, and fair field. J o h n W . M c L a r e n .- —Born at Brisbane, December 24, 1887. The fast bowler of the team, and a good one, too, though up to the present he has had little to d o ; a useful bat, and excellent hard-working field— in fact, he works harder than a fast bowler should.
