APRIL 22, 19 11. CEICKET : A W E EK LY EECOED OF THE GAME. 37 EASTERN PROVINCE v. THE TRANSVAAL. Played at Lord’s No. 1 Ground on March 15 and 16. The Transvaal won by an innings and 14 runs. By consistent scoring the Transvaal made 225 on the first day, Tancred and Lindsay adding 54 together, Floquet (who hit seven 4’s) and Newberry 60 and Ward and Thompson 39. Le Roux, by far the most successful with the ball, did not keep himself on long enough. The Eastern Province cut up badly against Newberry, a googlie bowler, and were all out for 77. Following-on, they had scored 33 for the loss of Hippert and Delbridge by the end of the day, and on the Thursday gave an improved display but could not escape the innings defeat. Longworth, missed when 26, hit a 4 and two 3’s in scoring 47, but could get no-one to stay with him. Score and analysis :— T ran sv a a l . L. J. Tancred (capt.), c Giri, b Brown 56 M. BORDER v. WESTERN PROVINCE. Played at Lord’s No. 3 Ground on March 15 and 16. Western Province won by 40 runs. Some even, but not very exciting, cricket was seen in this match on the first day. Western Province, though favoured several times by the field, only made 105. The second wicket added 45 and the last 30, but several catches were missed daring the latter stand. Hartigan, despite the poor fielding, came through with seven wickets for 44. For the Border Hartigan and Style put on 51 together, and extras totalled 23, anda lead of 15 were gained. Low scoring marked the second days’ cricket, and some fine bowling by Snooke pulled the Western Province through by 40 runs. Score and analysis: — First innings. D.
