This may be translated thus:—Of the match Married v. Single there is little to say. In it MacFarlane made his one-thousandth run, thus establishing a Belgian record. The match brought about a regrettable incident. One of the umpires deliberately gave Alpen out leg-before because, to his idea, this batsman was playing too carefully. The umpire was undoubtedly wrong, but the prudent game of Alpen in all the preceding matches, and continued in a match easily won, explains, without excusing, the umpire’s decision. NORFOLK v.
