Cricket 1911
S e p t . 16,1911. CEICKET: A WEEKLY EECOED OF THE GAME. The kibran?. (All Publications intended for review in “ Cricket ’ must be addressed to the Editor.) THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SPORT.* More than once it has been our duty to refer in these columns to the new edition of this standard work, which Messrs. Heinemann have been issuing in fortnightly parts at one shilling net each, and the publication of the third bound volume enables us to say once more that the work is one which everybody interested in sports of the world should make an effort to possess, for not only are the articles from the pens of authoritative writers, but the illustrations are numerous, interesting and instructive. Furthermore, the get-up of the production is admirable, the clear type, the paper and the arrangement of the matter leaving nothing to be desired. Vol. III., which contains 448 pages and about 500 illustrations, deals with all sports in alphabetical order from Hunting to Racing. There is also a most interesting section devoted to obsolete sport, wherein details are given of badger, bear and bull-baiting, cockfights and tournaments. OLD ROSSALLIAN CRICKET.+ A neatly-produced pamphlet, dealing in detail with the recent tour of the Old Ros'sallians, and referring to their previous oDes, hns just been published at the office of this journal. The edition is strictly limited. From Messrs. S. Ray & Co., of Esplanade, Calcutta, we have received a copy of the Fieldmarshal Cricket Score Book. The compiler—Mr. S. Ray, M .A.— is evidently an enthusiast, for, although the methods he suggests would entail extra labour on the scorers, they would certainly make a club’s record more complete and interesting to peruse at the end of the season than is generally the case. A paper-covered book (32 innings) can be had for As. 8, in full cloth (64 innings) for Re. 1 or for 200 innings, gilt letters, with club name on, for Rs. 3— 8. * The Encyclopa’dia of Sport. Vol. 3.
