In 1907 h e ran up 145 v. K e n t S eco n d at F lix stow e ; an d in 1908 h e scored 377 in 10 com p le te d innings fo r th e co u n ty , his highest being 183 v . N o rfo lk a t Ip sw ich , an d to o k 20 w ick ets for 396 runs. W ith o u t d oin g qu ite as w ell as this in either 1909 or 1910, h e a ch ie v e d v e ry useful w o r k ; his on ly innings fo r S u ffo lk this season w as 74 v . N o rfolk a t B u ry . M r. P h ilip W y n d h a m C o b b o ld (b orn J a n u a ry 5th, 1875), a S u ffo lk m a n in ev e ry th ew an d sinew , is p ro b a b ly the sid e’s b est bow ler, a n d the p ity o f it is that h e can n ot fin d tim e to p la y in e v e ry m atch . H e is slow to m edium in p a ce, w ith irrep roach ab le len g th , does n o t “ d o ” v ery m u ch , b u t does it either w a y , a n d w ith p ace from the p itch ; a n d his a ctio n is so esay th a t he can g o o n all day w ith ou t tirin g. W ith o u t ever bein g a great b a t, he has often m a d e runs. H is sch ola stic record is E to n a n d C am ­ bridge ; h e w as in th e sch o o l eleven in 1892 (w hen h e headed the bow lin g averages) a n d 1893, a n d he g o t his blu e a t C am bridge in 1896, w h en h e to o k 24 w ickets for the ’V arsity at u n d er 20 runs each. H e p la y e d fo r th e n ew ly -form ed S u ffolk team in 1902, a n d has p la y e d a t least o n ce in each season sin ce, th o u g h seld om regularly— this season in on ly tw o m a tch es. B u t in sp ite o f his irregular appearances, he has ta k e n as m a n y as 185 w ick ets at a co st o f under 13 ru n s ea ch , a n d has aggrega ted a b o u t 550 runs w ith an average o f b etw een 13 a n d 14, his best scores bein g 53 v.
