Played at Hastings on August 28, 29 and 30 and won by York shire by an innings and 32 runs. Yorkshire made themselves safe from defeat on the first day when, in four hours and three-quarters, they scored 445 for four wickets. Hirst played a superb innings of 218, making his runs in three and a-half hours out of 370 and hitting three 6's (drives) and thirty-four 4’s. He might have been caught when 36 and again when 98, but his batting was excellent. With Drake (missed when26) he put on259for the fourth wicket in 160 minutes and with Booth 111 for the fifth in55.
