Cricket 1911

S e p t . 2,1911. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OP THE GAME. 489 THE M.C.C.’s TEAM FOR AUSTEALIA. Vine having accepted the invitation to visit A ustralia, the English team is now complete and is as follow s:— Mr. P. F . W arner (Middlesex) (captain) Mr. F . E . Foster (Warwickshire) Mr. J . W . H . T. Douglas (Essex) J . B . Hobbs (Surrey) H. Strudwick (Surrey) W. H itch (Surrey) W . Rhodes (Yorkshire) S . F . Barnes (Staffordshire) George Gunn (Notts.) J . Iremonger (Notts.) S . P. Kinneir (Warwickshire) E . J . Sm ith (Warwickshire) F . E . Woolley (Kent) C. P . Mead (Hampshire) J . Vine (Sussex) The above is a team which will take with it the confidence of all cricketers, if not to win the rubber, at least to perform with credit. It is, of course, not the side which one would have chosen to repre sent England in this country, but the conditions under which the game is played in A ustralia differ in some respects from those experienced over here, and in only a few instances could the side be strengthened for the programme which is before it. The bowliD g seems likely to prove stronger than that of the last team which went out, and the only criticism we feel justified in passing on the side is that we should have liked to see a batsman of the class of Hayward included. Some difficulty m ay be experienced in settling satisfactorily upon the order of going in, but the matter should prove capable of decision. M.C.C. AND GROUND v.
