THE ALL -IND IAN TOUR. 22nd M atch .— v. S U S S E X . Played at Brighton on August 2 1, 22 and 23 and won by Sus3fx by 10 runs. Runs were hard to make on Monday and Sussex, who were puzzled by Bulsara, did well to make 158. Mulla hit finely for the visitors, and of the 58 runs added for the sixth wicket in 17 m inutes claimed 53, hitting four G’s (all off the elder Relf) and six 4's. When Sussex went in the second time with a lead of 20 Vine and R elf (K. R.) put up 48 for the first wicket, but no one did very much, the ball turning quickly and requiring careful watching. The Indians made a good effort to pull off the game. Score and an alysis:— First innings. S ussex . Second innings. Relf (R. Played at the Oval on August 2 1, 22 and 23 and won by Surrey by 9 runs. Unfortunately for Strudwick, rain interfered with the early part of this match, but good gates were nevertheless experienced and a splendidly contested game was seen. Surrey gained a doubtful advantage when they won the toss and, batting first on a slow wicket, had nine wickets down for 1 1 1 at the end of the first day. They had eight men out for 84, but the ninth wicket put on 27 and the lust 34. Carr bowled with great effect and was always difficult. When Kent went in only Humphreys made much progress against Sm ith, who came through with an analysis of eight for 3 1. Kirk found the wicket rather too slow for him . It was well for Surrey that tbey led by 38 on the innings for, going in again, they collapsed badly against Woolley after an excellent display by Ducat. Woolley had remarkable figure*, and they did not flatter him . whilst Huish by his display raised wicket-keeping to the regions of the fine aits. Set 10 2 to win, Kent were given a good start by Humphreys «nd A. P. D ay, the pair making 34 ere being separated by a brilliant piece of work on the part of Strudwick. D ay played capitally, but wickets fell steadily and, am id much excitement, Surrey pulled through by 9 runs. When Fielder was out, last man, there was some doubt as to the validity of the catch, Sm ith falling in effecting it. The umpire at the bowler’s end could not decide, but, upon appeal, the one at square-leg gave the verdict against the batsman. Score and an aly sis:— First innings. S urrey .
