A meeting of the Advisory County Cricket Committee was held at Lord’s on February 24th. Those present were :— Lord Harris, in the chair, Mr. W . T. Taylor (Derbyshire), Mr. C. E. Green (Essex), Mr. G. L. Jessop (Gloucestershire), Dr. Russell Bencraft (Hampshire), Mr. J. R. Mason (Kent), Mr. J. Horner (Lancashire), Mr. C. Marriott (Leicestershire), Mr. A. J. Webbe (Middlesex), Mr. A. J. Darnell (Northants.), Capt. W. E . Denison (Notts.), Mr. H. T. Hewett (Somerset), Mr. J. Shuter (Surrey), Col. E. A. Bruce (Sussex), Mr. H. W. Bainbridge (Warwickshire), Mr. H. K. Foster (Worcestershire), and Lord Hawke (Yorkshire). Dr. J. Earl Norman and Messrs. R. H. Mallett and A. M. Miller (representing the Minor Counties Cricket Association) and Mr. F. E. Lacey (secretary, M.C.C.) were also present. Somerset’s proposal with regard to the method of scoring points in the County Championship was carried. It read thus :— “ That five points shall be scored for a win in a completed match. Should the match not be completed, the side leading on the first innings shall score three points. In the event of a tie, the points shall be divided. Matches in which no result on the first innings shall have been attained shall not be included in the table of results.” Lancashire’s proposal, which fell to the ground upon that of Somerset being carried, was as follows : — “ That the present method of deciding the Championship be continued, at least for another season.” Surrey’s proposal, which was defeated, was in these words :— “ That four points shall be scored for a win in a completed match. Should the match not be completed, and only if not completed, the side winning on the first innings shall score one point. In the event of a tie on the first innings or a completed match the point or points shall be divided. In arriving at the percentage four points shall be included for every match in which a ball has been bowled.” Proposals on the question of points by Yorkshire and Sussex were, by leave, with drawn. Those by Sussex were :— (a.) “ That three points be given for each match won.” (b.) “ That in the event of a match being unfinished one point to be given to the side leading on the first innings.” Yorkshire's proposals were :— (a.) “ That in view of the proposed visit of the Australians and South Africans in season 1912 all first-class county cricket matches for that season be of only two day’s duration.” (&.) “ That the payments to professionals be a matter for each County Committee to decide.” (c.) “ That the payment of umpires be left in the hands of the Advisory County Cricket Committee.’' (d.) “ That, should the first resolution be carried into effect, the Championship scheme be so amended as to allow of points being awarded for a win on the firs, innings.” * (e.) “ That the whole question be re opened for discussion in September, 1912.” It is understood that the suggestions by Yorkshire will be discussed at a meeting of the Advisory County Cricket Committee in April, by which time the counties will have had an opportunity of giving the various points raised their full consideration. With regard to the proposal by Surrey:— “ That trial balls, if both batsmen are at the wickets, be not allowed in first-class matches.” it was agreed that there should be an understanding between the first-class and minor counties that this should be adopted in future in their matches. At their meeting at the Junior Carlton Club on the 6th inst., the M.C.C. Committee approved of Somerset’s proposal with regard to reckoning points in the Championship. Amendments to the proposed alteration in the law as to no-balls must reach the M.C.C. a month in advance of the Club’s general meeting, to be held on May 3rd. THE INDIAN CRICKET TEAM. [ f r o m A CORRESPONDENT.] Bombay, March 2. At a meeting of the Selection Committee of the Indian team for England in Bombay yesterday, under the presidency of Capt. J. G. Greig, the following players were definitely chosen to make the trip :— H. H. the Maharajah of Patiala (captain), A. Salam-ud-din (Aligarh), Shafkat Hussein (Aligarh), Syed Hussein (Aligarh), B. Jayaram (Bangalore), P. Balu (Bombay,', Dr. H. D. Kanga (Bombay), R. P. Mcherhomji (Bombay', H. F. Mullu (Bombay), M. Pai (Bombay), J. S. Warden (Bombay), M. Noor Illahi (Cashmere), M. Balsara (Delhi), K. Sechaehari (Madras), H. Manek Chand (Patiala), and K. M. Mistri (Patiala). The team will sail from Bombay on May 6th. In bowling and fielding it will probably give a good account of itself, but those who can gauge the relative merits of English and Indian cricket are not sanguine that it will win many of the more important matches of the tour. As the trip is to a great extent one for educational purposes, it would perhaps have been wiser to include younger players instead of some who have passed their prime. The Jam Sahib (Ranjitsinhji) has stated it to be impossible for him to make the trip, and his absence will naturally be felt severely. His decision, however, inasmuch as it was anticipat'd, has come as no surprise. CRICKET ON THE GOLD COAST. OSU v. ST. EDMONDS.
