Played at Canterbury on August 1 0 , 1 1 and 12 , and won by Lan ca­ shire by nine wickets. Against some admirable bowling by Brearley Kent were got rid of in their first innings for 156, and were always playing an uphill game afterwards. They had eight men out for 58, but the nibth wicket addtd 54 and the last 44. As the result of con­ sistent batting Lancashire gained a lead of 273. Spooner, in making 57, obtained his 2000th run of the season ; Heap and Sharp put ou 1 1 7 for the third w icket; MacLeod, in scoring 39, made three 6’s and three 4’s ; and Garnett hit freely for 55 and cariied out his bat. Altogether, the innings realised 429 and lasted six hours and 10 minutes. Seymour played a skilful game when Kent went in the second time, scoring 116 in four hours and being undefeated at the close. He offered only one chance—when 96—and hit fifteen 4’s, and added 75 for the fourth wicket with Hutchings and 90 for the sixth with Hubble. In the first innings of the home side both Seymour and Haywood batted an hour and three-quarteis, and the last two wickets added 93.
