A u g u s t 12, 1911. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OP THE GAME. 431 W ARW ICK SH IR E v. WORCESTERSHIRE . Played at Edgbaston on August 7, 8 and 9 and left drawn. The Warwickshire total of 274 was largely the work of four men, Stephens making 50 out of 73 in 70 m inutes, Foster and Quaife adding 1 1 2 for the fourth wicket and Sm ith hitting up 57 in an hour. Foster followed up his brilliant innings by taking four wickets without a ran being made from him, and had much to do with his side’s lead of 8 1. Upon going in the second time Warwickshire added consider ably to their lead, Stephens m aking 96 out of 16 3 in 130 minutes and Foster hitting a 6 and ten 4’s during the 55 minutes he was in. Baker carried out his bat for 10 1 when the innings closed. Worcester shire were set a very severe task, but a third wicket stand of 156 by Burns and Arnold enabled them to save the game. YORKSH IRE y . LANCASHIRE . RHODES’ BENEFIT. Played at Sheffield on August 7, 8 and 9 and left drawn. Against good bowling on the first day, Lancashire were put out for 167 in three hours and ten minutes. T hat total, thanks to blunders in the field, Yorkshire headed by over a hundred. Rhodes and W ilson, who was in three hours for 50, made 60 for the first wicket and Drake, hitting well, claimed 54 out of 80 in 90 minutes. H aigh also played a bright game, and hit eight 4’s in his 50. In Lancashire’s second innings MacLeod was responsible for a really great performance, scoring 1 2 1 out of 17 2 in two hours and hitting three 6's and fifteen 4’s. W ith Makepeace he put on 87 for the sixth wicket and with Hornby 85 for the seventh, of which number Hornby claimed only 17 . Yorkshire made a poor start when set 251 to win, but, thanks chiefly to Denton, effected an honourable draw. There was an excellent attendance on each of the three days.
