Cricket 1911

J u l y 29, 1911. C E ICK ET : A W EEK LY RECORD OF THE GAME. 387 and a fortnight ago against Northumberland took two wickets for 29 runs in the first innings and six wickets for 56 in the second, getting rid of such a dangerous batsman as J. W. Gillespie both times. In the Durham match he was rather more expensive owing to dropped catches, six going a-begging off him in the first innings, but on going in to bat at a critical period of the innings he showed good form for 13 before being bowled by Morris. He owes something to the judicious coaching of Barnes, who is very proud of his young colleague’s prowess, and evidently has a future before him in the cricket world. Almost needless to say, Porthill Park are at the top of the North Staffordshire League, and with a commanding lead_ WESTMORELAND v.
