384 CR ICKET : A W EEK LY RECORD OF THE GAME. J u l y 29, 1911. M IDD LE SEX v. WORCESTERSH IRE . Played at Lord’s on July 24, 25 and 26 and won by Middlesex by 10 wickets. The visitors really lost the match on the first day, when they were put out for 135, Burns, who made a few good hits, being the only batsman to perform with credit. Middlesex, thanks chiefly to a second wicket stand of 176, gained a lead of 206. Anson gave no chance and Hearne, who batted over four hours, but one—a difficult one when 60. Simpson-Hayward’s lobs were excellent and were never mastered. When Worcestershire went in the second time Pearson and Bowley made 66 for the first wicket aud the latter and Arnold 73 for the second. Bowley carried his bat through for 104— an innings quite free from fault. Score and analysis:— First innings. W o r c e s t e r s h ir e . Sccond innings.. Bowley, lbw, b Hcarne (J. SUSSEX. Played at Leeds on July 24, 25 and 26 and won by Yorkshire by 281 runs. Sussex were outclassed in all departments, especially in batting, not one of their players scoring thirty runs in either innings. On the first day Denton, driving and pulling well, made 76 out of 144 in 95 minutes, and on the second Rhodes scored 125 in three hours and a-quarter. The latter, who was let off when 121, hit well all round and with Drake added 128 for the third wicket. Both Hirst and Haigh bowled with marked effect.
