Wilson made two capital scores in this match, but in his second innings, when he and Rhodes put up 125 for the first wicket, he was missed ere scoring. The play during the three days was, on the whole, slow. For Essex Douglas and Fane made 118 for the first wicket, Perrin and Campbell 77 for the sixth and Gibson and Buckenham 75 for the eighth. Played at Taunton on July 17, 18, and 19 and won by the tourists by one wicket, through Braund missing Shivram when only three runs were wanted with the last pair in. In obtaining their hundreds, neither Bajana nor Braund made a mistake. Shivram had a very great hand in the success of his side, scoring 113 not out in the last innings and making the third hundred of the tour. Gloucester shire, after having six men out for 123, made 268, Barnett adding 62 with Board and 42 with Langdon. Bell, on his first appearance for the County, made two good scores, and in his second innings helped Jessop to add 161 for the sixth wicket in 75 minutes. The feature of the game was the batting of Jessop, who scored 50 in 35 minutes, 100 (out of 123) in 53 minutes and, altogether, 139 (out of 170) in an hour and a-half.
