J uly 22 ,1911 . CKICKET : A WEEKLY EECOED OF THE GAME. 355 THE ALL-INDIAN TOUR. 12 th M atch .—v. LEICESTERSHIRE. THE VISITORS* FIRST SUCCESS. Played at Leicester on July 13, 14 and 15 and won by the All- Indian side by seven wickets. A first-wicket stand o£ 178, which lasted 140 minutes, was the foundation of the visitors’ total o{ 481. Meherhomji hit twelve 4’s in his 86 and Kanga, without giving a chance, made It 3 out of 313 in four hours, cutting and driving splendidly and hitting twenty-three 4’s. Eight men bowled during the stand for the first wicket. When four men were out Kanga, in trying to hit a ball to leg, struck Shields so severely on the head that he retired from the game, Sturman taking his place behind the wicket. Shivram and Salam-ud-din put on 91 in 55 minutes, the former hitting well all round in his 85. When Leicestershire went in W ood and Knight made 116 for the first wicket, but received poor support. The side followed-on 198 behind and were beaten by seven wickets. Score and analysis A ll I n d ia . First innings. Second innings. Dr. H. D. HAMPSHIRE . Played at Huddersfield on July 13, 14 and 15 and won by York shire by ten wickets. The visitois showed only weak batting on the first day, for, although the first wicket realised 25, eight men were out for 77 and it was only a plucky stand of 61 by D. M. Evans and Newman wLich caused the total to look respectable. Yorkshire obtained runs readily enough, llhodes and Wilson making 66 for the first wicket and the latter and Denton 1L7 for the second. A lead of 213 was obtained, and, as it seemed likely the game would be won by an innings, play on the second evening was continued until 6.45. The last Hampshire wicket, however—Mead and Smith in—could not be obtained until the third morning, when it had added 59. Mead, going in second wicket down, carried out his bat for a faultless 120, which included fourteen 4’s. Score and analysis :— H am psh ire . First innings. Mead (C. P .), lbw , b Booth ... A. J.
