WARW ICK SH IRE v. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. Played at Edgbaston on July 13, 14 and 15 and won by Warwickshire by 227 runs. The batting of Quaife and the all-round cricket of Foster were the chief factors of the Warwick shire success. The former played admirably in making 113 out of 198 in two hours and a-half without a chance. He hit eighteen 4’s and added 86 with Parsons in 70 minutes. Foster hit well for his 98. making a 6 and ten 4’s, and with Quaife put on 123 for the fourth w icket: but he was missed when 42. For Northants Smith placed vigorous and flawless cricket after five wickets were down for 52, and Buswell helped to add 68 for the last wicket. The second innings of the side calls for no remark. Played at Nottingham on July 13, 14 and 15 and left drawn. The match was marked by sedate cricket almost throughout, Essex taking six hours and a-half to score 367 and the subsequent play lacking enterprise. In his first innings Perrin might have been caught when 15 and Douglas was missed when 10. As the pair put on 221 for the second wicket in two hours and a-half the mistakes entailed serious consequences. Perrin hit a 6 and nine 4’s and Douglas nineteen 4’s. For Notts George Gunn and Hardstaff added 89 together in the first innings and 161 in the second, on each occasion for the second wicket. In his second innings Perrin reached three-figures for the second time in the match, and with llussell put on 142 after the fall of the third wicket. W ith Essex making no attempt to force a win, the third day’s play was uninteresting and little importance attaches to it. Perrin gave no actual chance in scoring 100 not out and hit ten 4?s during the 185 minutes he was in. Score and analysis :— E ssex . First innings. J. W . H. T. Douglas, b W a s s ...................
