Cricket 1911

3 42 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OP THE GAME. J u ly 15, 1911. KENT v. SOMERSET. TWO SEPARATE HUNDREDS BY WOOLLEY. Played at Tonbridge Wells on July 10, 11 and 12 and won by Kent by 316 runs. This match will always be remembered chiefly on account of the batting of W oolley, who made a hundred in each innings, scoring 104 in two hours and a-quarter at his first attempt and 148 not out in two hours and a-half at his second. His first display was chanceless, but in his second he was missed when 31 and 62. Jennings also did well and in each innings helped Woolley to add over 100 for the fifth wicket, 141 being put on in 105 minutes in the first and 241 in 115 in the second. In making his 104 not out—his first hundred for the county—he offered only one chance, when 42, and at times he and his partner scored so readily that at one period 191 were added in 85 minutes. Somerset, however, were much handicapped by Lewis being unable to bowl owing to indis position. It was somewhat remarkable that, whereas 20 wickets went down on the first day for 344 runs on a fast wicket, 517 should be made for seven on the second. Poyntz showed good form for two hours in his second innings and hit a dozen 4’s. Score and analysis:— K ent . First innings. E. W. D illon, b Robson ............................ For this match the County were without several regular players and a trial was given to Micklethwaite, who showed good form in making 44. Denton, missed when 9, 15,17, 62 and 116, scored 118 in two hours and 50 minutes, bitting a six and seventeen 4’s and adding 96 with Micklethwaite and 126 with Haigh. The latter, apart from a chance when 52, played faultless cricket and hit thirteen 4’s during the two hours he was in. The early batsmen on the visiting side did fairly well, but the tail was much in evidence in each innings. The best form was shown by JayaRam, who made 53 in an hour without a mistake. He hit seven 4’s. Score and analysis:— Y o r k sh ir e . W ilson, lbw , b W a rd en ..................... Bates, run o u t ...................................... Denton, c JayaRam , b Bulsara ...
