OXFORD AND CAMBRIDGE UN IVER S IT IES . Played at Portsmouth on July 6, 7 and 8. As the result of a match wherein 1,406 runs were made for 37 wickets, the Army and Navy won with six wickets to spare. Both sides might have been strengthened, but, that fact notwithstanding, the cricket was always well worth watching. For the Universities Lagden and Monckton added 68 for the last wicket in 35 minutes in the first innings and 110 for the eighth in an hour in the second. Crutchley, hitting sixteen 4’s, made his 154 with only one chance—when 110—and with Kidd put on 138 for the sixth wicket in 150 minutes. On the second day 595 runs were made for eleven wickets, the Services scoring 340 of the number for the loss of their last six men. For the successful side Turner and Yates added over 100 together in each innings for the fifth wicket, putting on 104 in the first innings and in the second. In the first innings also Mornement and Lyon, who hit fourteen and fifteen 4’s respectively, added 149 in an hour for the eighth wicket. Score and analysis:— O xfo rd and C am bridg e .
