Cricket 1911

324 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J u l y 8,1911. YORKSHIRE! v . WORCESTERSHIRE. Played at Bradford on July 3 and 4. THE HAT TRICK BY BOOTH. Yorkshire won by nine wickets. At one time Worcestershire seemed likely to make a useful score in their first innings, Arnold and Burns adding 109 together, but after lunch Booth took five wickets for 11 runs, dismissing Cuffe, Collier and Bale with consecutive balls, and the innings closed for 165. Owing chiefly to a third-wicket stand of 119 by Rhodes and Drake Yorkshire led by 100 on the first innings and, Hirst bowling with much effect afterwards, were set only 79 to win, a number they obtained for the loss of Wilson. It was somewhat remarkable that in Yorkshire’s first innings neither Arnold, Tayler nor Collier should have bowled. Bale, owing to a broken bone in his right hand, did not bat a second time, and in the final stage of the game Arnold kept wicket. Score and analysis :— W orcestersh ire . First innings. The outstanding feature of the first day’s cricket was an innings of 130 by Dillon, who offered only one chance—when £0—and hit seventeen 4’s. He added 63 with Troughton, 50 with Snowden and 98 with Lord Harris, who batted capitally for an hour. Despite a first-wicket stand of 63, the tourists were dismissed for 145 and, following-on, just managed to escape the innings defeat. Meherhomji played a fine game for 84, going in first and being last out. He made no mistake during the two hours and a-half he was in and hit a 6 and ten 4’s. Score and analysis :— K ent .
