Lancashire won by an innings and 455 runs. Hampshire had only a weak side and on the first day had 621 runs made against them in five and a-half hours for six wickets. Spooner played a splendid innings, scoring 186 out of 352 in three hours and a-half and hitting twenty-eight 4’s. He was missed when 146, but offered no other chance. W ith Makepeaoe he made 81 for the first wicket, with Tyldesley 214 (in 125 minutes) for the second and with Sharp 57 for the third. The last-named, who made no mistake during the two hours and a-half he was in, hit a 6 and nineteen 4’s and added 136 in 70 minutes with Hartley and 110 iu 40 with MacLeod. On Tuesday the total was taken to 676 and then the innings was declared. The runs were made in six hours and a-half. MacLeod scored 101 out of 180 in 90 minutes without a mistake.
