Cricket 1911

J u ly 8 ,1911 . CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OP THE GAME. 315 THE ALL-INDIAN TOUR. 8 t h M a t c h .— v. SUBKEY. Played at the Oval on June 29, 30 and July 1. Surrey won by six wickets. Although without Major Mistri, their best batsman, the visitors made a eapital fight and in scoring 264 obtained their highest total to date. Kanga and JayaRam, in a second-wicket partnership which lasted an hour and 50 minutes, added 122, and Meherhomji, Prince Gaekwad and Warden did capital work. Hayes, by faultless cricket, scored 95 in an hour and three-quarters, his driving being very powerful. On the second day the tourists failed to adapt themselves to the changed conditions, and in consequence lost some of the advantage they had gained. Still, they played a good game and were beaten by only six wickets. In his second innings Davis batted half an hour ere making a run. Score and analysis :— First innings. A ll I n dia . Dr. H. D. YORKSHIRE. Played at Nottingham on June 29 and 30. Yorkshire won by an innings and 27 runs. The home side gained nothing by winning the toss, the rain in the early morning giving the bowlers the advantage for some time. By lunch six good wickets were down for 101, and the innings closed for 141. When Yorkshire went in, Bates and Denton each batted about two hours, and in partnership put on 136 for the second wicket. Denton, however, was missed three times. On the second morning Notts again had to bat on a wicket which assisted the bowlers, and were dismissed for 98. George Gunn and Iremonger were chosen for the Trial match at Lord’s and were therefore unable to assist their county. Score and analysis :— N otts . First innings. The Trial match at Lord’s handicapped both sides, Gloucester shire being without Jessop and Middlesex lacking Warner, Hearne (J. W .), Tarrant and Hendren.' Winning the toss meant winning the match, the rain experienced during the first night causing Gloucestershire to bat on a damaged wicket after the Middlesex batsmen had run up a good score on a perfect pitch. Both Litteljohn and Harrison, who reached three-figures, were missed, the former when 38 and 54 and the latter when he had made 109. Together they put on 131 for the third wicket.
