J u ly 1 , 19 1 1. C R IC K E T : A W EEK LY BECORD OE THE GAME. 299 SOMERSET y . MIDDLESEX. Played at Bath on June 26, 27 and 28. H AT-TRICK BY TARRANT. Middlesex won by nine wickets. After losing three wickets for 35 on Monday, Somerset had to bat on a very difficult wicket the next day and in the circum stances did well to make 115. Hearne (J. T.) bowled throughout unchanged, and Braund batted an hour and a-half for 27. Somerset fielded very keenly and bowled well when Middlesex went in and led by 14 on the innings. Going in again they made a fair start, but Tarrant took the last five wickets for 7 runs in 35 balls, performing the hat-trick at the expense of Herbert, Hodgkinson and Taylor. Middle sex had 135 to win and, thanks to a first-wicket stand of 128 by Warner and Tarrant, made the number with nine wickets in hand. Score and analysis:— First innings. S om erset . Second innings. KENT y . NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. Played at Dover on June 26, 27 and 28. Kent won by 153 runs. Kent, lucky to win the toss after a blank day on Monday, scored 206 in less than three hours. A. P. Day, going in when four men were out for 70, hit a 6 and ten 4’s in scoring 70 out of 98 in an hour, without making a mistake. Seymour also did well, but was slow in comparison, his 47 taking an hour and a-half to complete. During the Kent innings, Jones, while fielding, was injured and, in conse quence, did not open the innings as usual. Kent led by 77 on the innings, and, making 160 on a bowler’s wicket on Wednesday, set Notts 238 to win. The pitch had worn a good deal and the visitors, bitting out, were dismissed by Blythe and Woolley, who bowled unchanged. This was Notts’ first defeat of the season.
