Hampshire won by 108 runs. Leicestershire, owing chiefly to Knight, who carried his bat through the innings, obtained a lead of 37 on the first innings. Five wickets were down for 58, but Mounteney helped to add 57 in 40 minutes. Going in again, Hampshire were given a fine start by Bowell and Fry, who made 92 for the first wicket. Later, Mead batted for two hours without a mistake and, with Stone also doing well, Leicestershire were left with 311 to win. At lunch-time on the third day half the side were out for 76. Mounteney and Joyce then added 91 in under the hour, and after they were separated the end soon came. In trying to catch Knight Mead split his hand so severely that he will probably be out of the side for some time to come. Score and analysis — H am psh ire . First innings. Second innings. C. B.
