J u n e 2 1 ,1 9 1 1 . C E IC K E T : A W EEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 26 ? SURREY y . CAMBRIDGE UN IYERSITY . Played at the Oval on June 15 and 16. THE HAT-TRICK BY H ITCH . Surrey won by an innings and 131 runs. Outplayed from start to finish, though their opponents had only a moderate side, Cambridge were beaten in their first out match by an innings and over 100 runs. On a last pitch they were out for 109 on the first day, Hitch’s pace being obviously too much for the majority. W ith consecutive balls the bowler named dismissed Kidd, Falcon and Prest, and with his next delivery but one accounted for Susskind. Surrey ran up 427 at the rate of 100 an hour. Hayes, driving with great power, made 63 out of 80 in 45 minutes, and with Sandham put on 53, of which number the latter claimed but 5. Sandham showed promising form on his debut for the county, and obtained his 53 in 110 minutes. He might have been caught when 9, but offered no other chance. With Wilkinson, who hit hard, be put on 138 for the fourth wicket. Later, Spring obtained 72 in 80 minutes, and with Hitch added 64 in 35 minutes and with Smith 38 in 15. For their second-innings score of 187, the University owed almost everything to Falcon and Ireland, who alone reached double-figures and in partnership added 83 in an hour. WARWICKSHIRE. Played at Edgbaston on June 15 and 16. Warwickshire won by ten wickets. Although the visitors managed to get the county out for quite a small total, their batting broke down badly in the first innings and they were never able to effect a recovery. The absence of Major Mistri, who, with the Maharaja, was kept away by Coronation duties, was severely felt. In their second innings, however, Shivram made the largest score of his career and thereby saved the inniugs defeat. He batted for three hours without a mistake acd hit a 5 and ten 4’s.
