Cricket 1911

J u n e 17 , 19 1 1. C E IC K E T : A W EEK LY EECOED OF THE GAME. 253 “ G. H .,” the old Kent cricketer), F . R . Foster, J. S. Denton — whose excellent innings had so m uch to do in enabling Northants to make tlieir record score— the H on . H . G. H . Mulholland and D . C. Collins to be added to the list. It is interesting to speculate how many other players will qualify for inclusion before the season ends. W h a t e v e r the rest o f the season m ay have in store for them, Essex w ill be able to look back upon 1911 with no little satisfaction, seeing that they can claim victories at the expense o f Kent and Yorkshire. The role which was played last year by Leicestershire appears to have fallen to their lot, and one hopes for their sake— for few counties have been obliged to struggle harder during recent years— that they will be able to sustain it. The election o f Mr. Douglas as captain has been marked by the best results so far. Yorkshire now head the Championship table, with Kent and Notts, bracketed equal for second place. T h e r e appears to have been a hitch in the negotiations respecting • the visit of an English team to Australia next winter, but it w ill probably prove to be a slight m is understanding and nothing m ore. Australians are anxious that a team should go out, and as it was understood at the Cricket Conference over here in 1909 that such a visit should be made, the arrangements could not very well lapse without the sanction o f the Australian B oard o f Control. The terms, how ever, have still to be settled, but that should not prove a difficult matter. The following are some of the latest hundreds obtained in minor cricket:— April 2 9 —A. E.
