YORKSHIRE . Played at Manchester on Ju n e 5, 6 and 7. Yorkshire won by 159 runs. Some excellent bowling on the first day by Brearley saw York shire put out for 199. W ilson played a useful and cautious innings of 64, but received poor support. Spooner and H artley made 62 for Lancashire’s first wicket, and Makepeace and Heap 84 for the fifth in 90 minutes, a lead of 25 being obtained on the innings. The visitors did so well on Tuesday that when stumps were drawn they were 249 runs on with five wickets in hand. H irst played a splendid innings, and Drake (missed twice very early) helped to put on 193 for the fourth wicket. He batted 225 m inutes for his 156, and hit twenty-six 4’s : he offered two chances after reaching 100, but nevertheless played a grand innings. Lancashire had four and a-half hours in which to make 352, and began by losing Spooner and H artley for 9. Sharp and Tyldesley added 58, but the other batsmen, except Heap, did little.
