214 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J une 3, 1911. WORCESTERSH IRE v. SUSSEX . Played at Stourbridge on May 29 and 30. Worcestershire won by nine wickets. Worcestershire had all the best of the play on the opening day, dism issing Sussex for 164 and leading by 78 with seven wickets in hand. The visitors failed badly on a perfect wicket, with the exception of the elder K eif, who batted well for 110 minutes. He hit eight 4’s. Worcestershire, on the other hand, made runs readily, Bowley and Pearson scoring 68 for the first wicket and Turner and Foster adding 110 for the third. Foster obtained his 84 out of 110 in 80 m inutes, hittiug two 6 ’s and twelve 4’s. On Tues day the bowlers were assisted by the state of the wicket, which had crumbled, and Worcestershire’s useful lead enabled them to win by nine wickets. Score and analysis :— S u ss e x . Played at Northampton on May 29 and 30. Kent won by an innings and 56 runs. The visitors held the upper hand throughout and won very easily by an innings in a couple of days. The batting honours clearly rested with Humphreys, who made 144 out of 320 in just under four hours. He m ight have been caught when 9, but offered no other chance and hit thirteen 4’s, the m ajority of them well-timed drives and leg-hits. Seymour helped to add 14 7 for the second wicket, and Hutchings hit up 38 out of 58 in 32 minutes. The Northamptonshire batting was very disappointing, only Smith obtaining any mastery over the attack. The player named scored 61 out of 108 in 90 m inutes, and, driving with great power, hit a 6 and seven 4’s. H uish’s wicket-keeping was a feature of the match. Score and analysis :— K e n t . E. W. SURREY y . GLOUCESTERSHIRE . riayed at the Oval on May 29 and 30. Surrey won by au innings and 5 1 runs. On a perfect wicket on Monday Surrey scored 448, Hayward and Ducat sharing the honours. The former made 1 12 in 80 minutes with Hobbs for the first wicket, and scored his 1 2 1 out of 195 in 135 minutes without a mistake. Ducat batted 110 minutes for his runs and with Bush put on 120 in just over an hour : he hit four 5 ’s and thirteen 4's. and offered only one chance —when 92. Gloucester shire were dismissed on a good wicket for 176, only Board doing much. In the follow-on Board and Langdon put up 77 for the first wicket, and the latter and Dipper 10 3 for the second. With the total 200 Hobbs bowled with a new ball and quickly finished off the innings. Dipper played a sound and plucky game, and for the last hour was handicapped by poor light.
