Thanks m ainly to a fine innings of 55 by Braund and a useful 25 by Robson, Somerset scored 130 in their first innings, a total which Yorkshire exceeded by 89. The m ajority of the visitors could make little headway in their second innings and Yorkshire won as stated. Score and an aly sis:— S omerset . First innings. Played at Lord’s on May 29, 30 and 31. M.C.C. won by 299 runs. By bright cricket the M.C.C. scored 396 in just over four hours on the first day, Falcon and Brown sharing the honours of the play. They added 122 together in less than an hour, and the former offered only one chance—when 96—whilst Brown’s display was devoid of fault. The last wicket added 62 in 40 minutes, and the total reached within four of 400. Leicestershire, owing largely to mis takes in the field, scored 295. Coe was missed when 29 and Lord when 17, and together they added 168 for the fifth wicket. The former, making several good off-drives, hit a 5 and fourteen 4’s, whilst Lord’s chief strokes were ten 4’s. Mead played a fine game in the M.C.C.’s second innings, making 127 in two hours and three- quarters and hitting sixteen 4’s. Hitting freely after reaching three-figures, he was missed when 120 and 121. With Johnston he added 56, with Falcon 51 and with Weigall 50. On Wednesday Brown and Tufnell, hitting freely, put on 105 without being parted for the seventhwicket in 55 minutes. The former played a faultless game, but Tufnell was let off when 24. Left with 478 to win, Leicestershire were dismissed for 178 and beaten by 299. Wood and King put on 57 together in 50 minutes. Trott’s success as a bowler was very popular. Score and i First innings.
