Played at Coventry on M ay 25, 26 and 27. W arwickshire won by two wickets. After m any fluctuations in ihe play, the visitors were beaten by two wickets, but up to the very end the W arwickshire success was in doubt. For their lead of 104 on the first innings the home side owed much to Charlesworth, who scored 1 16 out of 201 in two hours without a m istake : he hit three 6 ’s and nineteen 4’s, but, strange to say, not a 2. W ith Kinneir he added 69 for the second wicket and with Quaife 102 for the third in 50 minutes. Sussex upon going in again fared badly for a time after the rain, but a seventh-wicket stand of 10 1 by Leach and K illick improved matters considerably. The latter, in scoring a faultless 94 in 165 m inutes, played a really great innings. When Warwickshire went in to get 207 Kinneir and L illey put up 4 1 for the first w icket: but half the side were out for 101 , and, fortunately for them, Quaife and Cowan put on 43 for the sixth wicket and Foster and Sm ith 46 for the eighth.
