The bowlers carried everything before them in this match which commenced at Fenner’s on Wednesday, the only stand of any conse quence being whilst Collins and Falcon were together. They added 45 for the second wicket, and between them made more than half the runs scored by their side. In Gloucestershire’s first innings Cowie dismissed Mills and Fowler with consecutive balls. M. 4 :o 5*1 2 M.C.C. AND GROUND v. HAMPSH IRE . Played at Lord’s on May 15 and 16. M.C.C. and Ground won by one wicket. On a soft wicket twenty-three wickets fell on the first day for 327 runs, Hampshire being 107 runs on with seven wickets in hand when play ceased. They thoroughly deserved the good position they obtained, for Walter Mead was able to make the ball turn a good deal. They had over 90 on the board with only two men out, but Bowell, Yates and Sprot failed, and it was due to 44 by Pry, who played good cricket after an uncertain start, and some hitting by Kennedy and Newman that the total reached 181. The M.C.C. batting was, on the whole, disappointing. Newman and Colour-Sergeant Forster, of the Royal Berkshire Regiment, bowled unchanged, each taking five wickets. The latter is left-handed both as batsman and bowler, and, taking a short run, sends down a slow to medium ball with an easy delivery. On the second day Walter Mead again bowled successfully, making his record for the match twelve wickets for 71 runs. W ith 183 to win, the M.C.C. lost Spooner at 21, Daniell, who hit a ball from Newman out of the ground, at 30 and Relf at 47. Luther saw 50 go up, but was bowled four later, and when Douglas left, after batting steadily for 80 minutes, half the side were out for 82. Weigall and Cox added 31 for the sixth wicket and Tremlin and Hearne 52 for the ninth—a most valuable stand at a critical time. From the last ball but one of the match Mead survived a loud appeal for lbw. Score and analysis:— H am psh ire . First innings. Mead (C.
