Kent v. Middlesex, at Canterbury, August 2 and 3.—K. L. Hutchings scored 74 out of 101 in 55 minutes : he reached 50 out of 65 in 34 minutes. Yorkshire v. Worcestershire, at Harrogate, August 5, 6 , 7.—In their second innings Yorkshire took six hours and three-quarters to make 238. Kent v. Hampshire, at Canterbury, August 5, 6 , 7.—In Hampshire’s first innings C. B. Fry maide thirty-two singles in scoring 63. England v. Australia, at the Oval, August 9, 10 , 1 1 .—On the first day there were present T.R.H. Prince Edward and Princess Mary of Wales, and on the second T.R.H. Prince George and Princess Mary of Wales. M. A. Noble won the toss for the fifth time running during the season in Test matches. On August 11 twelve Kent men bowled in first-class cricket — three for England v. Australia at the Oval, and nine for Kent v. Sussex at Brighton. Somerset v. Surrey, at Taunton, August 9, 10, 11.—Thompson (H.), head of the Oval ground-staff, played for Surrey after an interval of thirteen years. His skill as a “ googlie ” bowler gained him a place in the side. In the srcond innings of Somerset F. A. Phillips made 55 out of 82 in 50 minutes. An England Eleven v. Australians, at Blackpool, August 12,13,14.—On the second day of the match 500 runs were scored for fourteen wickets in 280 minutes, the former making 188 for seven wicke's in an hour and a-half and the Australians 312 for seven wickets in 190 minutes. For the England Eleven V. F. S. Crawford made 35 by means of a 6 , seven 4's and a single. In the Aus tralians’ second innings M. A. Noble (36) and V. T. Trumper (150) added 93 for the sixth wicket in 35 minutes, and the latter and A. J. Hopkins (21 not out) 45 for the seventh in 10 minutes : thus three-quarters of an hour’s play produced 138 runs. Lancashire v. Middlesex, at Manchester, August 12, 13, 11.—Trott made 50 out of 58 iu 38 minutes in the second innings of Middlesex. Somerset v. Kent, at Taunton, August 12, 13, 14.—In Somerset’s first innings Robson (E.) made 62 of the 91 runs added for the seventh wicket with Braund iu 90 minutes. In the stcond innings of the same side, whilst Lewis and Braun,1were together, Blythe had so many men on the leg-side that Bagshaw (H.), the umpire, stool point. Ten of Kent bowled whilst Somerset made 402 for eight wickets in their second innings. Nottinghamshire v. Sussex, at Nottingham, Angust 12, 13, 14.—In the first inning 3 of the home side Iremonger (A ) made 60 (not out) out of 85 in an hour : with Clifton, C. ( 6 ) he added 57 for the last wicket in 35 minutes. Gloucestershire v. Surrey, at Bristol. August 12, 13, 14.—Owing to the conduct of a section of the spectators in the second innings of Gloucestershire, a threat was made to withdraw the Surrey team from the field. Six men were leg-btfore-wicket in Gloucestershire’s first innings and two in their second. Worcestershire v. Hampshire, at Wor cester, August 12,13,14 —In the first innings of Hampshire Stone (J.) made 78 out of 115 in two hours. Northamptonshire v. Warwickshire, at Northampton, August 14,16, 17. This match commenced on a Saturday. Gloucestershire v. Australians, at Chelten ham, August 16, 17, 18.—Of the 58 runs ' added for the ninth wicket in the Aus tralians’ first innings by A. J. Hopkins (56 not out) and J. A. O’Connor (9) the latter made but 9. C. L. Townsend scored 129 out of 169 whilst in iu two hours for Gloucester shire, reaching 100 out of 134 in 100 minutes : he and C. S. Barnett (60) put on 117 for the second wicket, of which number the latter made only 25—of the first hundred runs added by the pair Townsend claimed 80. At one t;me in the second innings of the Australians Dennett (G.) took six wickets for six runs in 26 balls. Surrey v. Kent, at the Oval, August 16,17, 18.—In the first innings of Kent J. R. Mason (152 not out) and Blythe (C.) added 141 together for the last wicket, of whic'i number the former scored 107 and the latter 29. Kent v. Australians, at Canterbury, August 19, 20, 21.—V. S. Ransford (189) obtained his first 50 ruus out of 71 in 40 minutes. Sussex v. Essex, at Brighton, August 19,20, 21.—In the first innings of Sussex Relf (R.R.) made 52 runs out of 64 (58 from the bat) in 70 minutes. Surrey v. Yorkshire, at the Oval, August 19, 20, 21__ Iu Surrey’s first innings Marshal (A.) scored 110 out of 156 in 110 minutes, making 50 out of 70 in 50 minutes and 101 out of 140 in an hour and tliree-quarlers : one of his square-leg hits off Drake (A.) sent the ball bounding off the terrace out of the ground. In the first innings of Yorkshire Denton (D ) and Wilson (B. B.) added 74 for the second wicket of which number the form r scored 53. Owing to rain, Wilson (47) and Rothery, J. W. (43) batted on each of tbe three days for their firat-inuings score. Yorkshire made only 26 in their second inuinga—the smallest to'al ever scored by the county : the laft five wickets went down with the score unchanged. Derbyshire v. Northamptonshire, at Derby, August 19, 20, 21.—Owing to rain, W. H. Kingston (47) batted on each of the three days in ti e first innings of Northauts. Nottin-.hamshire v. Middlesex, at Notting ham, August 19, 20, 21.—Wheu he caught M. J. Susskind in the first iunings of Middle sex, A. O. Jones made his 500th catch in first-class cricket. Hampshire v. Leicestershire, at Ports mouth, August 19, 20, 21 —Captain \V. N. White scored 50 out of 71 in 65 minutes for Hampshire. Gloucestershire v. Worceste-shire, at Chtlteubam, August 19, 20, 21.—Owing to rain, Langdon (T.) batted on each of the three days for his score of 2 1 . Kent v. Yorkshire, at Dover, August 23,24, ; 5.—Claying for the latter Wilson (B. B.) batt, d 30 minutes ere making a run. Gloucestershire v. Essex, at Cheltenham, August 23. 24, 25.- I n Glouci stershire’s se, oud innings Langdon, T. (38 not out) and W. M. Brownlee (49 not out) made 91 without being parted in 25 minutes. ’1ho innings w«s then declared closed with no wicket down. Gloucestershire v. Middlesex, at Bristol, August 26.—The match was completed in a single day, Middlesex winning by an innings and 31 runs. In Gloucestersnire’s first innings (33) the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth wickets all fell at 32, and in their second (81) the second, third, fourth and fifth at 20.
