Rowlands re-appeared for the visitors after an absence of six years. In the first innings of Somerset Robson made 103 out of 139 in 85 minutes, and in the second scored 85* out of 150 in 50 minutes : in the match, therefore, he made 188 runs out of 289 obtained whilst in in two hours and a quarter, and was dis missed only once. In the second innings he and Lewis (67*) added 150 runs together without being parted for the third wicket in 50 minutes, and Somerset scored the last 189 runs of the innings (251 for two wickets, inning3 declared closed) in an hour and a-quarter. Hampshire v. Sussex, at Southampton, May 31, June 1 and 2.—On the first day 10,000 spectators were present and the receipts amounted to £186. Both are records for the ground. Notts v. Surrey, at Nottingham, May 31, June 1 and 2.—In Surrey’s first innings Gunn (G ) caught five at slip. In his second innings Hayward (100), when 58, was given out lbw, but was allowed to continue batting, the umpire lecognising that the ball had been played. Thirty wickets fell in the match, but only once were the stumps hit, Gunn (G.) playing-on in the first innjngs of Notts. Lancashire v. Yorkshire, at Manchester, May 31, June 1 and 2.- I n the second inuings (57) of the home side the fifth wicket fell at 6 . Lancashire v. Kent, at Manchester, June 3, 4 and 5.—Tn Lancashire’s second innings Tyldesley, J. T. (75) made 50 out of 69in 70 minutes. Notts v. Essex, at Nottingham, June 3, 4 and 5.—There were 50 maiden overs in the Nottingham innings of 350. Warwickshire v. Yorkshire, at Ed^baston, June 3, 4 and 5.—At one time in Yorkshire’s first innings Denton (140) and Wilson (102) added 40 runs off four overs in 15 minutes). Cambridge University v. Aus'ralians, at Cambridge, June 3, 4, 5.—The first three men on the latter side were stumped by N. C. Tufnell off J. B. Lockhait. During the week endiDg June 5 Quaife (W. G.) scored 259 for twice out in ten hours and a-half for Warwickshire. Against Worcestershire on the Worcester ground he made 83 net out and 96, and against York shire at Edgbaston 80. Suney v. Worcestershire, at the Oval, June 3, 4, 5.—In the fiist innings of Surrey Harrison (H. S.) at one period batted 25 minutes without making a run. Gloucestershire v. Sussex, at Bristol, June 3, 4, 5.—The first day’s play was restricted by rain and snow to 90 minutes. For Sussex Vine, J. (37 not out) m;.de 30 singles in succession, and at one time batted for half-an-hour without increasing his score. Yorkshire v. Kent, at Huddersfield, June 7, 8 , 9.—In the first innings of Kent A. P. Day (56) received from Hirst (G. H.) a ball which hit the leg-stump without removing a bail. In Yorkshire’s first innings (69) the fifth wicket fell at 9. Cambridge University v. Sussex, at Cam bridge, June 7, 8 , 9.—Set 336 to wio, Cambridge scored 327. Somerset v. Australians, at Bath, June 10, 11, 12. — In the second innings of Somerset Braund (L. C.) made 51 out of 71 in an hour. Middlesex v. Yorkshire, at Lo:d’s, June 10, 11, 12.—For Middlesex Hendren, E. (71) made 50 out of 72 in 65 minutes. Leicestershire v. Notts, at Leicester, June 10, 11, 12.—King (J. H.), in the first innings of Leicestershire, made 56 of the 80 runs added for the third wicket with C. J. B. Wood in 65 minutes. Gloucestershire v. Northamptonshire. at Gloucester, June 10, 11, 12.—Dennett (G.) took fourteen wickets in the match, but did not once hit the stumps. Cambridge University v. H. D. G. Levrson- Gower’s XI., at Cambridge, June 10, 11, 12. —In the first innings of the University J. N. Buchanan scored 56 out of 81 added for the second wicket with M. Falcon in half-an-hour. Lancashire v. Sussex, at Manchester, June 10, 11, 12. —In the second innings of Sussex Relf (R. R.) at one time batted 45 minutes for a single. Warwickshire v. Derbyshire, at Coventry, June 12, 14 15.—This n:atch was com menced oa a Saturday. Kent v. Worcestershire, at Tonbridge, June 14, 15, 16.—In the first innings of the former Fairservice (W. J.) was bowled by Buirows (R.) by a ball which sent a bail 40 yai\!s. In the second iunings of Kent Burrows took six wickets for 7 runs with the last 20 balls he delivered. England v. Australia, at Lord’s, June 14, 15, 16.—In the first innings of England A. C. MacLaren batted 30 minutes ere making a run. Kent v. LancasLi e, at Tonbridge, June 17, 18, 19.—In the second innings of Lancashire Makepeace, H. (72) and A. Hartley (72) made 99 for the first wicket in 105 minutes, nf which number the former claimed 72. Hartley was very patient: during the first 70 miuut s he was iu he made only 10 singles, and at the end of two hours and a quarter had scored but 25 (19 singles): in all, he obtained 72 out of 252 in 200 minutes. In the same innings K. G. Macleod scored 62 out of 96 in 50 minutes, hitting a 6 and eleven 4’s: he hit Blythe (C.) for 41 (a 6 , eight 4‘s, a 2 and a single) in three overs Sussex v. Surrey, at Horsham, Jane 17, 18, 19 —In the second innings of Sussex Vine (J.) made only 15, all singles, of the first 79 runs scored in partuership with Relf (R. R ). Gloucestershire v. Ham shire, at Bristol, June 17, 18, 19. - Iu the former’s first iunings G. L. Jessop scored 161 out of 199 in 95 minutes, scoring oil 58 of the 97 balls he received and hitting four 6 ’s, a 5 and twenty-one 4’s: he reached 50 in 40 minutes and i00 in 65, hitting L’ewellyu (C. B.) for 61 (12, 14, 18, 17), including four 6 's, in four overs. In his secoLd inuings he made 129 out of 170 in 98 minutes, hitting thirteen 4’s: he made 50 in 34 minutes anel 100 in 68 , scori g off 62 of the 106 balls he received. Whilst scoring 100 his jaitner, Langdon (T.), who was in with him through out, made only 8 . In Hampshire's first innings W. N. White (71) scored 51 out of 71 in 80 minutes. Oxford University v. Worcestershire, at Oxford. June 17, 18, 19.—In the first innings of the University H. S. Altham batted for 25 minutes and was then bowled without a run. In their second innings R. O.
