By their performances, with ball and bat respectively, Smith and Tyldesley stamped themselves as the two greatest cricketers of 1910. In all first-class matches during the season the former obtained 247 wickets at a cost of 13-05 runs each and the latter scored 2,265 [HaivHns & Co., Brighton. J. T. TYLDESLEY. (Lancs.) runs with an average of 46-22. Smith had never before secured such wonderful figures, whilst Tyldesley, although he has obtained larger aggregates and higher averages, has probably never shown better form.
