FROM A CORRESPONDENT. August 24 th. A season commenced in real earnest again last Saturday when a match was played between teams representing Australia and England. For four or five weeks there had been nothing doing, the heat being simply killing, and nobody cared to run the risk of sunstroke. From now onwards there will be some interesting matches in view of the Inter-port match due to take place in the first week of October. These Inter-port games are almost the same to us as the Tests are at home. Hong-kong is the only place that will send a team here this season. Last year Shanghai had to travel down to Hong-kong and were badly beaten by an innings with 280 runs to spare. They were also beaten by Singapore by four wickets, and Hong-kong beat Singapore by nine wickets. EN GLAN D v. A U STR A L IA .—Played on August 20 and won easily b y England, who lost their first three w ickets for a single. Hawkins and Carruthers added 13(3 in 90 m inutes after six w ickets had fallen for 70 and a w in for Australia seem ed likely. W in grove took eight w ickets for 41 runs. Score :— A ustralia . R. N.
