Cricket 1910
400 CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME S e p t . 8 , 1910. CRICKET IN AMERICA. FORMATION OF THE WESTERN CANADA CRICKET ASSOCIATION. Cricket history was made at the Winnipeg city hall last night, when delegates from Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba gathered together aud inaugurated the Western Canada Cricket Association. This provincial body will in the future govern cricket affairs from the great lakes to the mountains. Arthur R. Morrison, who was last night, amidst much enthusiasm, elected the first honorary secretary, and who is the conceiver of the organisation, said that the idea was to stimulate the game in the west in a manner that was impossible with out a large parent body. Important matters decided at last night’s meeting in addition to the election of officers, was the fact that each club should subscribe a dollar towards the upkeep of the Association. An annual Tournament will be held, and in future years an attempt made to send a represen tative side to try conclusions with the east. T. H. Hooper, who presided last night, also spoke of the benefit that would accrue to the game by the ofganisation of the more comprehensive body. The Tournament now being held it was resolved should be the first held under the auspices of the Association, and the winners will be declared champions of Western Canada. The three Lieutenant-Governors of the provinces concerned were elected hon. patrons; the three Premiers, hon. presi dents ; Hon. T. Mayne Daly was elected president, and Judge T. C. H. Johnstone (Saskatchewan). Hon. H. S. McCarthy, M.P., (Alberta), and H. Hooper (Manitobi) vice- presidents. Arthur R. Morrison is hon. secretary, and J. Creighton, auditor. Each province will be entitled to send delegates to meetings. The more detailed regulations of the Association will be settled by means of correspondence. During the course of the meeting Mr. Morrison read a messago of welcome from Mayor Evans also expressing regret that he was unable to attend the meeting. This greeting was the subject of a vote of thanks. W. Barrington Reilly, of Alberta, and Ber nard Hawke, of Saskatchewan, both made special reference to the uniqueness of the welcome on the city hall. Mr. Hawke ex pressed the opinion that it was the best advertisement cricket has ever had in Western Canada .—The Winnipeg Telegram (August 2nd, 1910). H AM PSTEAD v.
