S e p t . 8 , 1 9 1 0 . CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME 3 9 i The follow ing account of the function is taken from the Winnipeg Telegram “ The Eaton Athletic Association was the hosts of the visiting ciicketers yesterday afternoon, in the pretty new grill room in the big store. The table itself was a source of m uch com m ent from the guests, who appreciated the com plim ent that was paid them . The table was 22 yards in length. Down the center of the snow y cloth ran a narrow strip of green baize, at the ends of w hich w ere marked off the popping and batting creases, w ith the correct m easurem ent. The stum ps and bails were also set in their proper place, full size w ickets being used. A little further dow n from the creases at each end, three bats, placed upright like a tripod in the center of the green strip, were bound w ith the Association colours. The m enu was a clever series of parodies upon cricket term s, and the luncheon itself was decidedly recherche. R. Y. Eaton, president of the com pany, occupied the chair, w ith A . A . Gilroy on his left, and T. Hooper, the president of the W.C. A., on his right. “ A t the conclusion of the luncheon, Mr. Eaton spoke very feelingly of the advantages of sport to a com m unity, and said that he was glad to see the gam e going ahead. The luncheon was one of welcom e and a token of goodw ill to the visitors. B. Hawkes m oved a vote of thanks to the president, and was seconded by W. T. Bryant. The cricketers one and all stated that it w ould be a long tim e before they w ould ever sit dow n to such a cricket dinner. The visitors had been asked to take the lunch inform ally, and appeared in their flannels, and looked every inch upholders o f the great game they were now indulging in .” M ANITOBA v.
