W ith such success did bowlers m eet on the open­ in g day that sixteen w ickets fell for 235 runs. Gloucestershire, despite three m issed catches, were dism issed in under tw o hours for 128. Langdon and Salter, w ho put on 38 for the second w icket, played the best cricket. D uring the course of the innings Langdon m ade his 1,000th run of the season and Wass, w ho was m ost effective, obtained his 100th w icket. Parker bow led capitally w hen N otts w ent in, and, notw ithstanding a partnership of 32 by George Gunn and Irem onger, got six w ickets dow n for 65. A t this point Jones joined W hysail and by the brightest cricket of the day put on 42 w ithout further loss before stum ps were draw n. Play was restricted to a couple of hours on Friday, during w hich tim e eleven w ickets fell for 103 runs. Thanks to Jones, w ho m ade a fine drive for 0 off M ills, the N otts total was taken to 140. There was a rem arkable collapse w hen Gloucestershire w ent in the second tim e, Langdon leaving at 2, Salter and Board at 4, Jessop at 5, Brownlee at 20 and Roberts at 23. Cornelius subsequently m ade som e pow erful strokes, tw ice hitting Wass for 6 , and w hen stum ps were drawn w ith seven w ickets dow n for 70 carried out his bat for 30. H eavy rain caused the gam e to be delayed on Saturday until a-quarter to one, and then the Gloucestershire innings was finished off for 76, leaving N otts w ith 65 to w in.
