3 6 4 CRICKET A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. A u g u s t 2 5 , 1 9 1 0 . NOTTS v. MIDDLESEX. Played at Nottingham on August 22, 23 & 24. Nottinghamshire won by four wickets. On a w icket w hich helped the bowlers, each side com pleted an innings on the first day w ith an advantage of 40 runs to the hom e side. M iddlesex lost W arner to the first ball of the m atch and at the end of an hour and a-quarter had seven w ickets dow n for 70. IJendren alone showed to any advan tage of the earlier batsm en, but K idd and Saville im proved m atters by adding 33 in half-an-hour. The latter was then out to au extraordinary catch on the boundary by W hysall, who appeared to be over the boundary when, after several attem pts, he held the ball. N otts started well, George Gunn m aking 36 of the first 55 runs and Hardstaff and Payton adding 48 together in 35 m inutes. A ninth- w icket stand b y Irem onger and Clifton enabled the side to lead by 40 on the innings. In bow ling W hysall, H eam e (J. T .) took his 100th w icket of the season. The play throughout the day was very keen, and the fielding accurate. Runs w ere hard to m ake on Tuesday, especially against Irem onger, w ho took seven w ickets for 35 runs— the last four w hilst only 3 runs were m ade off him . Hearne (J.W .)batted w ell for 55 m inutes, and Douglas made a few good hits in his 19. N o-one, how ever, did m uch and N otts were set only 73 to w in. They lost W hysall at 15, and although the Gunns, Payton and Jones reached double-figures five w ickets were dow n for 60 when rain caused play to cease for the day. Yesterday, although there w as bright sunshine, it was only after a dreary w ait of m any hours that it was found possible to finish the game, so saturated was the w icket. N otts then m ade the few rem aining runs for tho loss of another w icket. Score and analysis: — M id d l e s e x . First innings. P. F.
